1998 Arctic Cat 300 4x4

By , Photography by Ned Bacon

Arctic Cat, the company perhaps best known for snowmobiles, is now offering a series of ATVs. The Arctic Bearcat, the first in this series, completely sold out in its first year of production. The 300, one of several additions to the line, is available in 4x2 or 4x4 versions, and can make easy work of terrain such as sand, snow, and dirt. With add-ons like plows, winches, and gun cases, this ATV can be a workhorse on the farm, invaluable on a hunting expedition, or a lot of fun on the weekend. The 300 4x4 has eight inches of clearance, independent double A-arm suspension, and standard Hi/Low-range.

It has a 280cc, oil-cooled SOHC four-stroke engine. Aspiration is provided by a constant-velocity BST31 carb, and the transmission is a constant mesh five-speed, with one Reverse gear. The shaft drive system has selectable two- or four-wheel drive modes, and an enclosed gear system in the rear. Hydraulic discs in the front, and hydraulic and mechanical discs in the rear provide stopping power.

With a 9.95-foot turning radius and a 225-pound rack capacity (75 pounds in front, 150 pounds in the rear), this ATV gets in and out of tight spaces and can make chores less routine. To find out more about the Arctic Cat line of ATVs, contact your local Arctic Cat dealer.
