1998 Sea-Doo GTX RFI

By , Photography by Ned Bacon

From the photo, it looks very similar to Sea-Doo's GTX and GTX Limited, but the GTX RFI has something very different underneath the shell: electronic fuel injection. The Rotax Fuel Injection system allows the vehicle to use fuel more efficiently and burn it cleaner, providing better economy and reduced emissions. According to the manufacturer, it's the first personal watercraft with EFI, and the first to be built with a focus on the environment.

Don't let that convince you that the GTX RFI isn't a blast to drive. The 782cc Rotax engine puts out 110 horsepower, and the rotary-valve intake makes sure it gives you the power you want. It also has variable-rate oil injection, for the optimal oil-to-fuel ratio at all rpm and throttle positions. The RFI makes engine combustion smoother, and reduces engine vibration. In addition, the manual choke will assure cold-temperature starts

The water-cooled GTX RFI is propelled by a Bombardier Formula water jet pump. The driveshaft has a crowned-spline design for engine and pump alignment at all speeds, and the stainless-steel impeller delivers improved higher acceleration and a higher top speed.

The GTX RFI was built on the platform of Sea-Doo's luxury model, the GTX, and shares many of the same features. These include: a 15-gallon fuel tank, Forward, Neutral and Reverse gears, a grab handle, footwell carpeting, a glove compartment, dual mirrors, 90mm analog speedo and tach, and an information center with 17 functions.

This is a personal watercraft that's built to excel at all speeds. For more information, contact your local Sea-Doo dealer, or visit their Website at www.sea-doo.com.
