Attach the new throttle cable...

Attach the new throttle cable to the throttle body and foot-feed and set the adjustment per the instructions. Automatic-transmission-equipped vehicles require the new kick-down linkage as well.

The new vehicle-speed sensor...

The new vehicle-speed sensor mounts between the speedometer cable and the transfer case.

Connect the new fuel lines...

Connect the new fuel lines to the fuel rails and attach to the mounting bracket on the new intake manifold. Connect the new fuel lines that come from the MPI rail to the stock fuel and fuel return lines using the supplied 5/16-inch fuel hose and clamps provided. It is imperative that the printed directions be followed at this point to ensure that the pressure and return lines don't get switched, as this can damage the fuel pump.

The instructions explain the...

The instructions explain the proper connection of the new electric fuel pump and fuel filter using a combination of existing and new fuel lines. Up front you'll need to install the new charcoal canister in the stock location and hook up the new vacuum lines.

Install the powertrain control...

Install the powertrain control module on the firewall with the supplied hardware. Plug in the wiring harness to the PCM using the 60-pin connector. Route the wiring harness over the top of the master cylinder, then around the rear of the engine. Keep it away from the exhaust.

There are two relays and one...

There are two relays and one MAP sensor that are mounted inline in the wiring harness, and they need to be mounted to the firewall. Use the provided screws and don't overtighten.

The wiring harness has a number...

The wiring harness has a number of inline connections for a variety of sensors as well as the injectors, and these connections are made now. The printed instructions guide you through the process.

Route the rest of the harness...

Route the rest of the harness along the top of the transmission. The next plug will be the vehicle-speed sensor, located on the transfer case.

The remaining harness is routed...

The remaining harness is routed along the framerail to the rear of the vehicle to connect to the fuel pump. Because of this item's location, it is a good idea to use dielectric grease on the connections to prevent corrosion.

Install the supplied 7.5-amp...

Install the supplied 7.5-amp diode in the field wire of the alternator. It is imperative that this diode be in the field circuit to protect the new electronics. Follow the supplied directions, which explain in detail the electrical connections for the fuel injection system.

The new air filter assembly...

The new air filter assembly attaches to the driver-side body-support rod. Connect the two 1/2-inch hoses from the aluminum connectors to the valve-cover vent and the fuel canister vent line.

This is how the engine looks...

This is how the engine looks after the install and before the radiator and hoses are installed. The kit even gives you a new, relocated windshield-washer bottle so you can wipe the mud from your windshield.
What it Fits
The Mopar Performance Jeep 4.2 Liter Multipoint Fuel-Injection Kit is designed for stock, unmodified, well-maintained '81-'90 4.2L (258ci) engines. Installation on engines with modified camshafts, increased compression ratios or engines that are in poor mechanical condition is not recommended. This kit is emissions-exempt in California under C.A.R.B. executive order D265-7. The tune-up and engine service procedures are the same as a '94-'95 4.0L Wrangler. The kit will not allow for the use of the stock tachometer, but includes a wire in the harness and directions for installing an aftermarket unit. The kit is designed to allow for the function of the "check engine" light, so fault codes can be read.
