OK, just how cheap are you? If you're like Rhett Cale of Hartford City, Indiana, then you're pretty cheap. Instead of buying those rubber-coated wire clamps to hold accessory wiring in place, Rhett suggests cutting strips from a used oil bottle. Next, fold the strips in half and run a self-tapping screw through them and into your sheetmetal firewall, fender or whatever. You will wind up with a strong plastic clamp that won't chaff your wires and sure didn't cost much. Come to think of it, if you take your time and do a really neat cutting job, they might not even look too bad. And oil bottles come in all sorts of colors, so you can color-match the clamps to your rig. We are all for recycling everything we can, so thanks for giving oil bottles a second life, Rhett.
Gerald Moore likes magnetic drain plugs fitted to the gearboxes and axles on his rigs, and you should like them too. They allow you to keep an eye on what's going on inside those gearboxes, and maybe stop a problem before everything is destroyed. Unfortunately, Gerald couldn't find magnetic plugs around his home in Burnside, North Carolina, in the large size popular in New Venture transfer cases like the one found in his '93 Grand Cherokee. So he drilled and tapped the O.E. plug and installed a smaller 11/42x20 size magnetic plug into the big factory plug. He did similar modifications to his axle plugs, and now has a better idea of his gearbox's condition as he checks his fluid levels regularly. Thanks for keeping an eye on things, Gerald.
