Improving Your Transmission for Strength and Mileage
The T-18 transmission is found in 1965 to 1985 Ford pickups, as well as some International pickups, Scouts, and Jeeps. The first-gear ratio is 6.32:1. This tranny is a popular swap due to its strength and reliability. Its replacement, the T19, looks identical to the T-18 but with a first-gear ratio of 5.11:1, it doesnt offer as much of a granny gear. The T-19 was used in Ford pickups from 1974-1988, and in some IH trucks, too. Its big advantage is its synchronized First gear. These are harder to find than the T-18s. View Related Article
