Truck Steps For Real Off Road Trucks - OR Fab Pro Steps

What's the difference between a running board and an off-road ready truck step? One goes in the trash, the other goes on your vehicle. There are plenty of "fancy" running boards and tube steps available to help you get into your truck, but most off road truck enthusiasts don't use the word "fancy" in our vocabulary.

For us, only a durable, functional, steps and nerf bar is suitable for our needs. There are several available but we recently came across a new adjustable step, from OR Fab in Chino Valley, Arizona. The ProStep is a little different as it is adjustable to accommodate the ride height of your vehicle and/or your personal preference when stepping in and out of the cab. It's also durable and compliments the look of any respectable off road truck.

OR Fab is a division of the Performance Automotive Group, who also own Trail Master Suspension and Performance Accessories body lift kits, all of which are made in the USA. We liked the fact that the OR Fab ProSteps are made from heavy-duty 2.5 x .083-inch wall tubing, making them overly strong and won't bend on the first rock they encounter on a trail. Furthermore, the steps extend to both the driver and passenger doors and feature a simple urethane, non-slip pad.

The first position allows the ProStep to lay flat and mount closer to your truck's cab. While this works great for stock height trucks or for those using a leveling kit, a second mounting position angles the ProStep downward, away from the cab. This eliminates banging your ankles on the bars if your truck is lifted for those of us with long legs.

We found that the ProSteps are easy to install as we witnessed them being bolted onto a 2007 Toyota Tundra that was equipped with a Trail Master 5.5-inch leveling kit and body lift. The installation took about 30 minutes to attach both sides. What makes the installation easy is that the mounting brackets bolt onto existing factory holes and braces, making installation simple.

Because you can adjust the steps, OR Fab doesn't mount the urethane step pads to the bars. To do this, they recommend you first install the steps in the position that is most comfortable for you. Then place the pad level on the step and use a punch to mark where you will be drilling a bolt hold to mount the pads. If you decide to change the position of the ProSteps, you can reposition the pads by drilling new holes.

It was very evident that the steps offered a rugged construction and considering they are available in either a black or silver powder coat finish, they also add an aggressive off road appearance to any truck. Currently, the ProSteps retail around $630 and are available for 4-door model Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, Toyota Tundra, Tacoma. GM Silverado, Sierra, Nissan Titan, and Dodge Ram Quad Cab pickups.
