The '00 Wrangler into which the UNO stroker was fitted. The latest report is that this engine will pull the front wheels on a full power launch and has the grunt to lug over the tallest rocks with aplomb. On the highway, it can pull the West Virginia and Pennsylvania hills in Fifth gear with no trouble.

1. Complete and installed. When you increase the power output of an engine in a major way, consideration needs to be given to breathing-in and out. It isn't so much a case of gaining power as it is not losing any. The increase in displacement requires more air and exhaust flow than the stock systems can deliver. On the "in" side, AEM's Brute Force intake has more than enough airflow for the UNO stroker, plus it has a throttle-body spacer included in the kit. The '00-and-up intake ('99-and-up on WJs) is a worthwhile addition to any Jeep and an improvement in mid-range power due to ram tuning. A Rock-It high-flow throttle body was also installed. On the "out" side, the Borla header and exhaust had more than enough flow for the stroker as well. Quadratec's custom aluminum valve cover has been painted to match the Jeep.

2. The stock 4.0L motor mounts are notoriously wimpy. We decided the stroker needed something a bit more substantial and added a set of M.O.R.E. "Bombproof" motor mounts.

3. A stroker is a lot like installing a larger engine. More displacement and more power equals more Btu that the engine needs to shed. For the most part, the stock cooling system could handle a stroker, but it reduces whatever reserve capacity the cooling system might have. In hot weather and hard use, it could cause chronic overheating. The Northern High Performance radiator uses two rows of 1-inch cores that will flow more coolant but also will add about 25 percent to the cooling system fluid capacity. It's roughly equivalent in cooling capacity to a five-core radiator of the same frontal area.
