Groovers use a very sharp U-shaped blade that is heated to enable it to slice rubber. Pushing on the handle with the blade against a tread block makes the contact (right behind the blade) close, putting current through the blade, which in turn heats it up. Blades are available in several sizes, and by adjusting the depth and width where they mount in the groover they can be used to make various shapes of cuts. View Related Article
