Paul Boundy's Maple Leaf Monster

Paul Boundy came out all the way from Grafton, Ontario, Canada in his 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500HD to compete in Top Truck Challenge this year and since he definitely drove the most miles just to get to Hollister Hills SVRA for TTC 2013, he earned himself the Long Distance Award at Top Truck Challenge this year. He logged about 2,800 miles one way! Paul’s Top Truck rig was the most modern vehicle amongst the competitors but beneath the hood of the 2003 Chevy Silverado lives a fire breathing tried and true 383 c.i. stroker small-block V8. Unfortunately, the big black bowtie started off the week with a broken front ring and pinion which really hurt its chances in all of the first day’s challenges as well as the Obstacle Course the second day.

Not only did Paul Boundy earn the Long Distance award, he also ended up with the Hard Luck Award after encountering mechanical difficulties that would surely have deterred many from attempting some of the challenges that he did, in two-wheel-drive no less. The big Chevy seemed to have a hard time trying to maneuver through the obstacle course. When the monstrous Chevy didn't seem to have enough room to make the sharp left hand turn at the lower water holes, Paul did the next best thing and ran it in reverse! We have to admit, it was a hell of a strategy but ultimately the lower water holes proved to be a tough obstacle and ended up putting the Chevy on its side. Paul did manage to get the truck back together for the Tank Trap but after wedging the truck in the rock wall canyon, the front driveshaft ended up failing. Paul and his co-driver kept a great attitude throughout the week and kept working to fix their rig which is why they earned the Hard Luck Award.
