The hill climb evaluates each rig's ability to crest a tough, loose section of a steep hillside. The fastest to the top wins. If a vehicle does not cross the finish line, a measurement is taken to create a 1-to-10 score for each rig.
This year the hill climb was moved to a different location from past TTCs. The new, improved hill was longer, and had a right turn near the middle. The park rangers did a great job roughing up the hill's surface. Several dirt berms provided enough of a challenge to stop some before they reached the top.
Only one rig broke on the hill climb, it was the Big Suburban that lost a front CV driveshaft.
