Sitting low and wide on 54s, this Early Bronco-inspired rig looks serious. With approach and departures angels that are off the chart, Goodwin has a rig that has clearly been designed to perform in the harshest terrains and look doing it, thanks to Flames by James bodywork. The tube chassis is constructed from 1.75-inch-diameter DOM tubing.

Shocker Of A Bronco
Brandon Goodwin's Bronco has as much in common with an early Bronco as the Tank Trap has with Interstate 5, but at least it is a cool conversation piece. With some vaguely recognizable early Bronco sheetmetal that has been massaged and narrowed to fit over the Kitsap Kustoms-built tube chassis, it is clearly purpose-built-for the purpose of taking it all at Top Truck Challenge.

A simple interior layout utilizes Corbeau buckets and a Grant steering wheel. Auto Meter gauges relay the rig's vital signs, and a JVC head unit provides the tunes. We think the EB doors that retain the wing windows add a little bit of retro flair.

Brandon Goodwin, Team #4

  • Most looking forward to: "Tank Trap. It looks like the hardest event and not everyone makes it."
  • Not looking forward to: "Frame Twister. Hitting the logs at full speed is rough on equipment."
  • Playing in his iPod/CD player: "Big B, White Trash."
  • Goodwin says: "I'm very helpful and always willing to lend a helping hand."

  • 129 1011 Brandon Goodwin 1972 Ford Bronco Front Rockwell Axle And Arb Locker
The front 21/2-ton Rockwell axle with Ouverson shafts supports the chassis and 54-inch Interco Boggers. Nestled inside the Rockwell is an ARB Air Locker and 6.72:1 gears. Sway-A-Way 16-inch coilovers control all that Rockwell mass, and six-piston Wilwood brakes handle the braking duties. Not visible is the front PSC hydraulic steering system.

  • 129 1011 Brandon Goodwin 1972 Ford Bronco Rear Axle With Rockwell Ouverson Shaft
Out back, another 21/2-ton Rockwell stuffed with Ouverson shafts resides. Like the front, it is stuffed with 6.72:1 gearing, but unlike the front, it utilizes a Grizzly locker. A rear PSC hydraulic steering system gives the rig four-wheel steering capability. The rear also uses a pinion brake.

Nestled between the narrowed fenders is a Chevrolet 6.0L V-8 that breathes through Hooker headers and a Flowmaster muffler. Goodwin estimates that his engine is putting out 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, which is then routed through a TH350 transmission and a Klune/NP205 transfer case setup.
