Magellan: Official GPS of Ultimate Adventure 2017 – #UA2017Posted in Ultimate Adventure: 2017 on July 13, 2017
When you’re 50 miles away from the nearest paved road, you’ve got 2 gallons of fuel left in your tank, and your cell service is limited-to-nonexistent, getting lost is one of the worst things that could possibly happen. While it’s always a good idea to keep a supply of paper maps on hand in that scenario, an electronic GPS unit by Magellan can take a lot of the drama out of off-road navigation.
We’ve sampled Magellan’s TRX off-road navigation smartphone app before and found it to be effective and simple, but for true off-the-grid capability, the company also offers the TRX7 touchscreen GPS unit. Preloaded with more than 100,000 forest and public-land off-road areas (and cloud-based user observations and trails), this unit is a handy way to keep track of off-road whereabouts and navigate to finish points. Taking it a step further, this year with Magellan’s TRX7 on board, we were able to plot the entire Ultimate Adventure route beforehand so our staff and cronies could lead the group through and if anybody needed to stay behind and make a field fix, catching up was as easy as following the green line on the TRX7 screen. And best of all, you’ll be able to download the UA2017 route on your TRX7 if you want to retrace all or just part of our route!
We’re longtime users of Magellan products at 4-Wheel and Off-Road, and we’re glad the company will be joining us as the official GPS of Ultimate Adventure 2017.
