The new six-cylinder EcoDiesel 3.0L diesel engine is the biggest news for the 2014 Ram 1500. It is capable of 240 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque, while still being more efficient than any gasoline-powered six-cylinder half-ton truck. It features a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, aluminum heads, and dual overhead cams. Thanks to a 60-degree cylinder bank angle and a 1-2-3-4-5-6 firing order that optimizes firing loads and manages inertia, there is no need for a balance shaft. Thanks to the 5W30 synthetic oil the EcoDiesel uses and standard engine oil cooler, owners can go up to 10,000 miles between oil changes.
