After testing this years vehicles at Willow Springs International Raceway on day one of the 2016 Four Wheeler of the year, we were able to finally get off the highway and on to the dirt. With our sweaters on and our lunches packed we headed up the Cerro Gordo trail with the fleet of contenders.
With skinny trails, tight switchbacks, and rocky terrain we were able to give each SUV and truck a through testing. Each judge was able to spend some quality seat time in each of the vehicles on our first day of trail testing, with everyone wanting a little extra time in the spirited Ram Rebel. The power of the 5.0L Cummins V8 in the 2016 Nissan Titan XD was extremely useful climbing steep hills in loose terrain, while the 2016 Toyota Tacoma slung it’s agile body through the tight and windy trail.
Thanks to powerful engines and a lot of suspension travel, both the Range Rover diesel and the Range Rover SVR made tackling obstacles look graceful. Even with a smaller V6 engine the Jeep Grand Cherokee handled everything we threw at it, like you would expect from a Jeep.
Stay tuned for more coverage from the 2016 Four Wheeler of the year right here on fourwheeler.com as we keep challenging each vehicle to see which new SUV and which new Pickup Truck comes out on top of our competition!
