Four Wheeler of the Year 2017: Day 1 GalleryPosted in Vehicle Reviews on December 6, 2016
The first day of Four Wheeler of the Year 2017 was centered on gathering empirical data. What does that mean? Well, it means we ran each of this year’s nine vehicles up an RTI ramp to determine their ramp travel index. Then we pointed the rigs to a dragway where we tested each vehicle’s 0-60 mph acceleration time, quarter-mile time, and 60-0 mph braking distance.
Let’s back up a bit. Four Wheeler of the Year contains two tests. One is SUV of the Year (SUVOTY) and the other is Pickup Truck of the Year (PTOTY). These two tests are open to new or significantly redesigned 2017 4x4s. This year, SUVOTY has two competitors, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and the Nissan Armada. PTOTY has seven competitors, the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ford F-Series Super Duty FX4, Nissan Titan PRO-4X, Nissan Titan XD (gas) PRO-4X, Ram Power Wagon, Ram 2500 Off-Road Package, and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
The Four Wheeler Network staff—comprised of members of 4-Wheel & Off-Road, Four Wheeler, Jp, and Dirt Sports + Off-Road, as well as a number of freelancers—were surprised at several things on Day 1, including the Raptor’s flex on the RTI ramp and the Armada’s impressive performance at the track.
During Day 1 the staff shot loads of photos and here’s a gallery of some of the goings-on. Day 2 will find us in the dirt as testing progresses, so stay tuned and remember to follow along on all of the Four Wheeler Network social media sites for on-the-fly updates!
