For 2018’s Ultimate Adventure, our newest crony, Ken Smith, brought along his super-patina’d mustard-yellow K20 Chevy that sits atop a 2001 Ram 4x4 chassis with a 24-valve 5.9L Cummins engine. Ken had only recently finished the buildup. Despite its factory-looking appearance, the vehicle features a lot of custom fabrication to get the body to mate so nicely on the Ram chassis. Unfortunately, Ken ran into a few issues out on the trail, beginning with a mechanical fan that decided it liked the taste of the radiator. On Day 2 of the event, the fan took a bite out of it while we were wheeling at the Mountain Mud Run off-road park in Warren, New Hampshire. Ken, Keith Bailey, Chris Durham, and a few others got the radiator sealed back up and to camp that night. But that wouldn’t be the end of the problems for Ken and many other UA 2018 participants. Tune in next month to see all the breaks and fixes!
