Ranger Overland Build: Meet the Participants of the 2020 Four Wheeler Overland Adventure
Blake Brown’s 1985 Ford Ranger.
Overlanders: Blake Brown and Richard Brown
Vehicle: 1985 Ford Ranger
About: "I overland because it is a release from the hustle and bustle of the modern world we have created and chose to live in. I feel that I should mention that I overland an '85 Ford Ranger because I feel like it's the underdog that is proving his worth to the trendy machines. It also shows that older technology is still relevant, and your off-road or overlanding journey can start with a 35-year-old $900 forgotten truck!" Among the beef Blake added to this shortbed was a '94 Ford Explorer Dana 35 TBB axle, Dana 44 outers with Warn premium hubs, M5OD five-speed transmission swap with 4.0L flywheel and clutch upgrade, 4.56 gear swap, rear locker, Bilstein shocks, 5-inch lift with Skyjacker Softride coils, Firestone Destination MT2 rubber with 17-inch Method Race Mesh wheels, and RedHead steering box. There are also custom rock sliders, a winch bumper with Smittybilt XRC 9500 winch, ARB onboard air compressor, and JB Custom Fabrication cable shifter for the T-case.
The 2020 Four Wheeler Overland Adventure takes place November 16-20, 2020, and will begin in Wickenburg, Arizona, then conclude in Flagstaff, Arizona. The event will include highway and backcountry driving by day led by an off-road guide, and camping at night. The expedition will feature 20 overlanding-equipped rigs, handpicked from dozens of applicants.
