Jeepster Overland Build: Meet the Participants of the 2020 Four Wheeler Overland Adventure
Chris Schenk’s 1967 Kaiser Jeepster Commando.
Overlander: Chris Schenk
Vehicle: 1967 Kaiser Jeepster Commando
About: "I overland because it allows me the freedom to see places that few will ever see and meet like-minded friends along the way." Chris did a ground-up restomod on the Jeepster, which included a JDM Isuzu Trooper turbodiesel hooked to manual five-speed transmission, Dana 30 front and Dana 44 rear axle from a CJ-5, plus 4.88 gearing, Eaton ELockers, and a 4-inch lift with Atlas Suspension leaf springs and 2-inch body lift. There's also a Poison Spyder front bumper with Badlands 12,000-pound winch, Pirelli Scorpion rubber, Norcold fridge/freezer, and self-made soft top. The homebuilt trailer has all sorts of engineering details, and some highlights to its function include an aluminum box with hinged top/accessory rack, DJ-5 front axle, and heavy-duty 12-volt linear actuator with manual and radio-control steering. That rack holds a Chris-designed trifold tent.
The 2020 Four Wheeler Overland Adventure takes place November 16-20, 2020, and will begin in Wickenburg, Arizona, then conclude in Mayer, Arizona. The event will include highway and backcountry driving by day led by a professional off-road guide, and camping at night. The expedition will feature 20 overlanding-equipped rigs, handpicked from dozens of applicants.
