How to Install a Flip-Style Tonneau Cover

No tools required for this simple DIY effort.

On the heels of our report offering tips for selecting retractable tonneau covers, we swing to the less expensive end of the bed-cover spectrum with a tech project: installing Bestop's EZ-Fold Hard Tonneau (a soft cover also is available) on our 2016 Chevy Colorado.

Tonneau covers basically serve two purposes. In addition to being a protector of sorts for contents in the cargo area of most mid- and fullsize pickup trucks, bed covers also have a cosmetic responsibility: to give any rig a clean, finished look.

The Bestop unit we're adding is an aluminum tri-folding cover that is installed in very, very short order (eight easy steps), without requiring hand tools. After unboxing and placing the cover assembly across the bed at the cab and aligning it (leaving approximately 1 inch of bedrail exposed on each side), the procedures are straightforward.

Working from cab to tailgate, the cover is unfolded and secured to the bedrails using four adjustable clamps: two at the cab, and a pair of latch-style tailgate clamps. Surprise! That's it, that's all.

Photos provide more clarity about the process, and the video presents the Bestop EZ-Fold Hard Tonneau, installed on our 2016 Chevy Colorado. Clean looks, good fitment, and ready to keep whatever we put in the bed safe, dry, etc.
