Warn Zeon 10 for The Ultimate International

A winch to rely on … anywhere.

When it came time to prep the 2019 Ultimate Adventure Ultimate International for solo pre-running and eventual participation in the 2020 Ultimate Adventure, we knew we wanted a new winch. Enter Warn Winch, a company that has been in off-roading almost as long as the pastime of off-roading has existed.

Warn was founded in 1948 and has been making winches that are second to none almost that whole time. One of the bedrocks of their winch line is the Warn Zeon 10 (retail: $1,255.99), a modern winch rated for 10,000 pounds and built to last through heavy use in the harshest of environments; it's the perfect winch for a do-it-all 4x4 that would be used to set the path for UA 2020.

With that in mind, we ordered up a Warn Zeon 10 and went about installing it on the custom bumper mounted to the Ultimate International. Warn also has several different mounting options for various 4x4s, and if you need a cool custom winch bumper for your International, check out the front bumpers available from IH Parts America.

Warn Zeon Features

The Warn Zeon was first available to the public in about 2012, and since then it has proven itself as a durable and reliable unit, fit to be relied upon around the world. The Zeon line is the premium line for Jeeps, trucks, and SUVs, and it's available in 8,000-pound, 10,000-pound, and 12,000-pound ratings with both steel and synthetic ropes (indicated by an S at the end of the name for synthetic rope, e.g. Warn Zeon 10S). Zeon also features durable cast aluminum housing with seals throughout, and it has a planetary gear train and series-wound motor. The body is powder coated in satin black, and the winch features stainless hardware and a stainless clutch lever. All this combined with the aforementioned seals throughout means this winch is very corrosion resistant. To that end, the winch comes with a limited lifetime warranty for mechanical components and a limited seven-year warranty for electrical components. You won't get that for $399.

Warn Zeon Platinum

The Warn Zeon Platinum series takes winching one step farther. Loaded state-of-the-art features, cutting-edge technology, and world-class engineering, the Warn Zeon Platinum gives a glimpse of what the future of winching will be come. The Platinum Series has many of the premium features of the Zeon with an advanced wireless remote control that displays motor temperature and vehicle battery info. Also, Warn has done away with the winch's clutch lever, with power in/power out now built into the remote. Lastly, the remote can be wired to control two 12-volt accessories, which can be plugged directly into the winch. The Warn Zeon 10 Platinum retails for $2,054.99.
