Seven Jeep Concepts Unveiled For The 2016 Easter Jeep Safari
Last week we gave you a sneak peek at two cool concepts Jeep will be heading out to the 50th annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, and we knew right away this year’s Jeep concepts were going to be spectacular, and Jeep did not disappoint. With 2016 being the 75th anniversary of Jeep and the 50th annual running of the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Jeep went above and beyond with these kick-ass concepts.
This year’s fleet of concept Jeeps feature a mix of both production and prototype Jeep Performance parts with the idea that they can take on the toughest trails and go far beyond where the road ends. While some may be more capable off-road than others, they are all trail-worthy vehicles.
A team of passionate engineers, designers, and fabricators that have built more than 50 vehicles for the annual Easter Jeep Safari built these seven new concept Jeeps. “Every year the Jeep team looks forward to pushing the limits with new, exciting and capable concept vehicles for our most loyal enthusiasts at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, where we receive a tremendous amount of valuable feedback.” Said Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand.

Jeep Crew Chief 715
We love Military Jeeps, and the Crew Chief 715 was built to pay homage to the long history of Jeeps that served the military, in particular the Kaiser M715. This open-topped concept started its life as a Wrangler Unlimited before undergoing its transformation into a modern-day Kaiser that ties perfectly into its military roots.
Thanks to the addition of extra doors and a rear seat, additional troops (off-road lovers) can fit into this capable Jeep similar to the original M715. With its 4-inch lift, Fox 2.0 remote-reservoir Shocks, Dana 60 axles, and 40-inch NDT Military tires wrapped around 20-inch beadlock wheels, this Jeep can certainly traverse some gnarly terrain.
Suspension wasn’t the only thing to get upgraded. Jeep Performance Parts rock rails, front and rear bumper-mounted winches, and on-board air were all added to make sure this tough Jeep is as self sufficient as possible. To improve the performance of the 3.6L Pentastar V-6 engine, a cold-air intake and exhaust were added to help spin those big tires on the rocks.
The interior is all business. With leather bucket seats that have canvas inserts, aircraft style switches, all-weather floor mats, and a compass so you don’t get lost, this interior features the basics, just like a classic M715.
Shortcut is an updated version of the awesome CJ-5. This Wrangler-based concept has a shortened body with minimalist upgrades that take us back to a simpler time. With a custom grille, hood, tailgate, fender-flares, and chrome front bumpers, Shortcut brings back the look of a Jeep icon.
To improve the trail capability of this concept, Jeep Performance Parts added Dana 44 axles front and rear and a 2-inch lift with Fox shocks before stuffing 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains on red steel wheels under it. If that didn’t make it trail-ready, shortening the Jeep by more than a foot reduced weight and increased maneuverability.
Since this Jeep is a lightweight the 3.6L Pentastar V-6 is more than enough power to get Shortcut moving. The interior is simple, yet safe, and functional. With a four-point cage, low-back bucket seats, and all-weather floor mats, this rig is ready for the trails in Moab.
Jeep Renegade Commander
Now this is Renegade we would daily drive and wheel on the weekends! With upgrades from the suspension to the body, this Commander is ready to lead the way.
To give this Renegade the ground clearance it needs, a 2-inch lift was installed, making room for the 29.5-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires wrapped around 17-inch Rubicon aluminum wheels. With a low center of gravity and upgraded tires and wheels, this Jeep should go almost anywhere you want.
The exterior received a bold treatment, with a Fluorescent Gray exterior color and the Renegade’s MySky open-air roof that has removable panels, Mopar rock rails, skid plates, exhaust, and off-road lights. This little Jeep won’t be missed.
The interior wasn’t left out either. Upgrades include Katzkin seat covers, body-color accents, a pedal kit, and a Mopar off-road kit and ensure this Jeep Renegade Commander concept will get you up and down the trail in comfort and style.
We love trucks, and Jeep trucks are some of our favorites. Since the new 2019 Jeep truck hasn’t come yet, this Comanche concept will have to hold us over. Based of the Jeep Renegade, the Comanche blends styling cues from military and civilian Jeeps of years past.
Because the Renegade was stretched 6 inches, a 5-foot bed was added, making this Jeep all about utility. To help this pickup go anywhere, a 2-inch lift, 32-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, rock rails, spare tire mounted in the bed and a winch were installed. A 2.0L I-4 diesel engine backed by a nine-speed transmission powers this Comanche with ease.
Exterior paint on this concept rocks a sweet name (Beige Against the Machine) and features a beige paint color with a satin-black hood, front fascia, steel bumper, and soft-top, giving this Comanche the ultimate utilitarian look.
Jeep FC 150
The Forward Control Jeeps have always been one of our favorite Jeeps to see on the trail, and this FC 150 is not different. While this Jeep isn’t so much a concept and more of a modernized FC, it still is beautiful.
This 1960 FC 150 captures the working capability these Jeeps were known for and still features the dents and digs the steel body earned while working. The chassis has been upgraded to make this truck more capable. Underneath the FC is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler chassis modified to fit a Dana 44 front axle and Dana 60 rear axle. Traction was improved with 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires that go perfectly with the 17-inch white steel wheels.
Powering this rig is a 4.0L PowerTech I-6 with a three-speed transmission putting the power to the ground. Inside the cab, the vinyl-wrapped bench, duck-hunting–pattern headliner, and vintage CB radio truly complete the heritage look of this FC 150.
This maybe the most talked about Jeep concept in the history of Jeep concepts, and the crazy team at Jeep and Mopar actually made it! With a 707 hp Hellcat engine stuffed between the frame rails and a six-speed manual transmission, this Jeep can blast through the trail or down the highway with ease.
To get the supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V-8 engine installed, the wheelbase was stretched 12-inches and the windshield chopped 2 inches to give the Trailcat a sleeker look. This Jeep is no street queen either, with Dana 60 axles, Fox shocks, 40-inch BFGoodrich Krawler tires, and beadlock wheels, this Jeep can go virtually anywhere in a flash.
If the growling V-8 didn’t let people know you were coming, the exterior styling sure will. A satin-black grille, LED headlights and fog lights, Hellcat decals on the front fenders, and Trailcat decals on the side of the hood let you know this Jeep is no joke.
The interior won’t let you forget you have 707 hp either, even with the engine off. Carbon Fiber bucket seats from the Dodge Viper wrapped in Katzkin leather keep you firmly planted, and a Hellcat embossed shift knob let grab the gears with style.
If you’re into hitting the trail for more than a day at a time, then the Trailstorm concept is perfect for you. This Jeep offers extra room to carry more gear and fuel. Based of the already-capable Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, the Trailstorm improves on that capability.
A 2-inch lift with Jeep Performance/Fox shocks makes room for 37-inch tires wrapped around 17-inch concept wheels. Dana 44 axles front and rear add strength to the drivetrain, and a winch means you can drag yourself out after you get a little crazy on the trail.
To give the driver a clear view of upcoming obstacles, half-doors were installed. Mopar rock rails, high-top fenders, winch guard, big brake kit, upgraded steel bumpers, and tire carrier from Jeep Performance parts complete the trail-worthy upgrades.
To blend into the Utah desert, a camouflage wrap covers the Trailstorm, and a black soft top allows for perfect top-off wheeling. The Trailstrom features a bed-lined interior for easy cleanup after you find the mud, and Katzkin seat covers over comfort and protection when on long wheeling trips.
