We got our first look at Land Rover’s most adventurous Discovery to date at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2018 Land Rover Discovery SVX features a 5.0L supercharged V-8 engine making 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft. of torque, eight-speed transmission, and a uniquely capable Terrain Response 2 traction control system. For added off-road capability, the Discovery SVX rides higher than other Discovery models, and the SVX is one of the very few factory model vehicles available with a winch—and a rear-facing one at that. The new Disco also features 275/55R20 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires with an outer diameter of 32 inches. An active center differential and locking rear diff, hill descent control, and All-Terrain Progress Control, a low-speed system that modulates throttle and braking automatically, keep you out of sticky situations.

“SVX is our new brand dedicated to all-action, all-terrain capability,” commented Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations John Edwards. Described by Land Rover as the ultimate Discovery for off-road enthusiasts, the Discovery SVX delivers Land Rover capability in a dynamic and distinctive manner without compromising comfort and practicality. We love to see automakers put extra effort into building off-road–focused concepts, it keeps things exciting in the stock vehicle world and shows that the public still loves high quality off-road vehicles. Stay tuned, we’d love to drive one of these soon, and if we do, you can be sure we’ll be sharing our thoughts.
