All Original 1983 Toyota SR5 Pickup Auction at Barrett-Jackson

Barrett-Jackson online auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, featuring some clean vintage 4x4s.

While browsing the Barrett-Jackson July 2020 online auction catalog, this clean, restored, all-original 1983 Toyota SR5 pickup jumped out at us. We've always had a soft spot for these utilitarian pickups. They're nearly indestructible little workhorses that feature a very solid 4x4 system, simple leaf-spring suspension, an incredibly durable engine, and relatively comfortable interiors. This particular 1983 model being auctioned as Lot 175 has undergone a mechanical and cosmetic restoration from its original carbureted 22R engine, five-speed manual transmission, and Toyota's excellent RF1A part-time T-case. The SR5 pickups came with upfitted interiors and graphics compared with the pedestrian Toyota pickups of the day. This model has spent its whole life in Arizona and was ordered with the infrequently seen air conditioning option, which, while perhaps a bit taxing on the factory 2.4L engine's 97 rated horsepower, is a welcome addition in the scorching southwestern summer. But with 4.10 gears in the factory centersections, stock-sized tires, and a vehicle weight right around 3,000 pounds, we're betting this little Toyota still has plenty of oomph to get up and out of its own way. We'll be watching this one to see where the no-reserve bidding winds up. Any guesses?
