Up Close With The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Mojave

We Crawl Around, In, And Under Jeep’s New Desert Toy

Is this the Jeep pickup for the off-roader who wants to go-fast in the dirt?
Jeep JT Gladiator Mojave vs Gladiator Rubicon: What's the Difference?

Jeep made waves at the 2020 Chicago Auto show by unveiling the high-speed desert running Gladiator Mojave. Aimed squarely at Toyota's Tacoma TRD Pro and Chevrolet's Colorado ZR2 the Mojave has been upgraded with thoughtful performance parts necessary for blasting across the desert.

To compete in this space Jeep upgraded the front axle under the Gladiator Mojave. Cast steel steering knuckles replace the cast aluminum versions on Rubicon models. Mojave uses the same Rubicon front axle housing, which features thick 10mm tubes. And the vehicle runs an open front differential with 4.10:1 gears. The rear differential is fitted with Jeep electronic locking differential, which is now able to be used at high speeds in high range.

The suspension is where the real magic happens. The Gladiator's base shocks have been replaced with massive 2.5-inch diameter Fox internal bypass dampers. Fox hydraulic bump stops reside inside the front coil springs, replacing Jeep normal microcellular jounce bumpers, making the Gladiator Mojave the first vehicle to offer these from the factory. Higher rate coil springs provide an inch of lift, which allows plenty of room for 33-inch tires.

In addition to all the mechanical goodness the Mojave boasts a host of cosmetic upgrades as well. Orange is the new red as Mojave moves away from the red tow hook trend and instead offers them up in a new orange color. Orange accents are also found throughout the vehicle. The interior can be had with either cloth or leather seats, which have deep side bolsters for hard desert running.

Until now we've only seen highly processed studio photos of the Mojave. Thankfully, Jeep had a couple units on display on the Chicago Auto Show floor that we were able crawl around, in and under. Check out the photo gallery below to see all the nitty gritty Jeep Gladiator Mojave details!
