Country Music Superstar Michael Ray’s Jeep #MTSEMA19

Third generation Jeeper builds Wrangler JKU for SEMA

Country music superstar Michael Ray "gets it." He knows what "Jeep Therapy" is all about and how getting behind the wheel of your Jeep can make you Think a Little Less about the stressful things in your life. Michael is a third generation Jeeper. His grandfather, father, and uncle are all Jeep enthusiasts, and Ray was raised with a passion for the open-air-on-a-back-country-trail, peaceful feeling that driving a Jeep can bring.

We had the opportunity to interview Michael Ray at the 2019 SEMA show in Las Vegas and talk about his 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU Sport that was featured in the Bestop booth. The on-going build (because a Jeep build is never truly finished) has recently received some awesome upgrades done by Music City 4x4 in Nashville, Tennessee. Ray has plans for further mods in the future and also plans to build an old school CJ sometime—similar to those Jeeps he grew up with.

Several upgrades have been done to the front of Michael Ray's 2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU. The front bumper is the Highrock 4x4 Modular Front Bumper with tubular grille guard, skidplate, and end caps. Lighting upgrades are by Baja Designs and include the LP6, a set of four Rock Lights, the Squadron SAE Fog-Pocket Lights, and the S1 Compact LED Auxiliary Lights.

The interior has been dressed up with a full set of custom embroidered seat covers by PRP. Michael tells us he has been asked numerous times where he got his custom seats, and that people are surprised that these are stock Wrangler seats with a snug fitted custom cover.
Adding a little "bling" to the build, they went with the 22-inch V-Rock V11 Anvil brushed aluminum wheel. Meaty 37-inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers provide excellent traction on the Tennessee back roads and trails.
The Bestop Core doors with twill uppers offer a variety of options and looks. Ray can easily pull the uppers for the sleek half-door look, or pop the Core panels for that semi-open feeling, or remove them easily for that open air flow.
Michael's Jeep sports the Bestop Supertop Ultra soft top, one of the easiest to slip into a safari style or topless mode. Secure storage is a must when cruising topless, so they added a Tuffy deck enclosure as well as locking storage boxes throughout the interior. The Roughrider Tailgate shelf provides a handy spot to jot down the lyrics to that next #1 hit.
Jp Magazine Editor Rick Pewe and country music superstar Michael Ray had the opportunity to discuss Jeep therapy and classic country music during the 2019 SEMA show. Watch for Michael's upcoming album, which will include a few Jeep related songs.
