John Deere Updates the Gator UTV for 2021

Automotive-style controls improve drivability.

The utility vehicle market has exploded in recent years. While the most popular segment seems to be the sport and performance side-by-side market, utility vehicles are the true heart of the market. These vehicles are used daily to haul goods and perform tasks on farms, ranches, and homesites across the country. Owners need a dependable, durable, and easy-to-use vehicle; and that's why many turn to the Gator by John Deere.

For the 2021 model year John Deere has updated its line of Gator utility vehicles to include easier-to-use controls and more automotive-like features. When owners jump behind the wheel of a 2021 Gator, the first thing they will notice is a new instrument cluster. This new cluster provides more information at a quick glance and will include gear position, fuel level, differential lock, and on select models, rpm and service interval readouts.

Also updated is the transmission shift lever, now with an integrated Park position and improved shift pattern. This update makes for easier operation and the aforementioned more automotive feel. These updated models also feature instant four-wheel drive, which is activated by way of a dash-mounted toggle switch. The power steering system has also been updated on Gator XUV M and R models to provide smoother steering and better control on all terrain types.

"For 2021, we took a look at our Gator lineup and made improvements to the transmission controls, digital displays, gear positions, and power steering," said Mark Davey, John Deere marketing manager. "Customers will find that our updated units are easier to shift and control, provide instant engagement of four-wheel drive and differential lock, and provide more information on the dashboard."

John Deere Gator utility vehicles are incredibly versatile, with more than 100 different attachments being available. These include snowplows, winches, sprayers, roofs, windshields, lights, and more. Gators come in the Work Series, Midsize XUV, Full Size XUV, and High-Performance trims. They can haul more than 500 pounds and tow up to 2,000 pounds. Gators can carry either two or four people, can be fitted with two- or four-wheel drive, and have as many as six tires.

While not the typical ultra-high-performance UTV we're used to recreating with, we're excited for these practical updates for 2021 and can't wait to get behind the wheel of a new and improved John Deere Gator!
