AM General and FCA Partner to Develop Tactical Concept Gladiator
AM General is partnering with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to create a light tactical concept vehicle. The concept vehicle will be built on the Jeep Gladiator platform and will be called the Jeep Gladiator XMT. The partnership was announced at the recent Annual Meeting and Exposition of the United States Army. Both companies have military histories that date back to World War II. The purpose of the collaboration is to meet global needs for a lightweight military truck.
"We are extremely excited to partner with FCA and introduce the Jeep Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck at AUSA," said AM General President and CEO, Andy Hove. "This new venture gives us an opportunity to showcase our expertise in light tactical vehicles and help FCA maximize the Gladiator's global reach and potentially enter new military markets."
AM General has over 100 years of experience serving the defense industry. The company has identified a series of parts and accessories that will help the Jeep Gladiator's leading off-road capability in military service. The Gladiator XMT has been upfitted by AM General with custom built military-grade parts ready to meet military customer needs.
The Gladiator XMT can be configured into a mission specific vehicle based on customer requirements. Configurations could include personnel transport carriers or command and control vehicles. AM General is currently gathering feedback and interest within the military marketplace. Production of these vehicles could begin as early as the second half of 2020. Both gas and diesel models could be offered to customers.
