Segway Breaks into Powersports Industry with New Side-by-Sides
Segway is the latest company to begin building side-by-sides. The company is known for its electric two-wheeled self-balancing scooters. Segway now has three hybrid powersports products that include the Fugleman (utility UTV), the Villain (sport side-by-side), and the Snarler (ATV).
The Fugleman features a hybrid powertrain. It has a standard 570cc four-stroke single cylinder DOHC engine combined with a 20c battery and permanent magnet synchronous motor. Th Fugleman puts out 86 hp. Hybrid technology gives the vehicle extra boost during acceleration. The Fugleman has a dual A-arm independent suspension system. It is equipped with adjustable front and rear air shocks. The vehicle also features an automatic lockable front differential. Two- and four-wheel drive modes can easily be switched on the fly. A cargo box allows the user to get tasks done easily. The Fugleman has a 1,980-pound towing capacity.
The Villain also features a hybrid powertrain. The sport side-by-side puts out 181 hp. The Villain has a 1000cc liquid-cooled parallel twin cylinder four-stroke eight-valve DOHC engine. The same air shock package is also found on the Villain.
Both side-by-sides will feature a dual oil column piston cooling system. Independent cooling is distributed to the engine and drive motor. The vehicles have a chrome-molybdenum steel frame for enhanced safety.
A smartphone app allows you to see battery life, fuel mileage, and track your trip. The app connects to the side-by-sides via Bluetooth. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
