Ultimate Adventure 2019 Episode 2, Leaving Civilization Far Behind #UA2019
Off-roading into the Eureka Trail System on UA2019
Ultimate Adventure week continues on at Motor Trend's Youtube channel youtube.com/user/MotorTrend December 2-6. In Episode 2 the Ultimate Adventure participants fill the fuel tanks, stock the coolers, and head out into the Alaskan wilderness for a couple days of off-roading and extreme overlanding. We entered the Eureka Trail System as the foliage was starting to turn colors. The going was a little dry at first because of the unusually harsh Alaskan summer of 2019 but eventually the mud holes and water crossings began and Ultimate Adventure started earning its name. After traversing the trail system all day we picked our spot for the night. We camped next to a bubbling stream and encounter the coldest temperatures on Ultimate Adventure since the event began 20 years ago, waking to an ice and frost coating on everything. We encounter water crossings so deep we submerge a 1977 Ford on 43s and had to purge the big-block's cylinders of water before we could carry on. We almost roll a fullsize Bronco, saving it from pirouetting onto its nose at the last minute. And we use the heck out of our VooDoo recovery ropes and Smittybilt winches to get the entire Ultimate Adventure through the deep, gooey muskeg that this area is famous for. All this before reaching an incredible overlook at Mount Healy which allowed us to see miles into the expansive wilderness around us. From then we carried on to the sleepy town of Glennallen, Alaska, where we made repairs and got ready for the next day of Ultimate Adventure 2019.
