Ultimate Adventure 2019 Episode 5, Ending UA2019 on a Mountain Top High Note #UA2019
Wheeling to the top of Bald Mountain in Alaska
If you've been tuning into youtube.com/user/MotorTrend each day during Ultimate Adventure Week on Motor Trend's YouTube channel you watched as UA2019 made it safely out of the Stampede Trail and back to camp at midnight. But while morning brought the daylight, it didn't bring a break in the action. The morning of Day 6 saw some participants stay behind to repair broken parts from the previous trail day while the rest of the group headed to the Usibelli Coal Mine to tour Alaska's only working coal mine and marvel at some of the largest machinery in North America. From there we headed back down to Wasilla, Alaska, passing active wildfire areas that ravaged the state during the summer of 2019, making it to the Transportation and Industry Museum of Alaska just before closing time. The Ultimate Adventure group then toured some of the rare and classic 4x4s and motorized vehicles, enjoyed some of the homemade solutions to uniquely Alaskan needs, and prepped for our final day of Ultimate Adventure 2019. Sunup of Day 7 brought Ultimate Adventure to the base of Bald Mountain, where the group engaged 4x4 and dropped the T-cases into Low Range before climbing through some epic jungle-like foliage, deep taffy like mud, and even some technical rockcrawl sections before cresting the mountain. Clearing skies, a somber crash site of a B-29 bomber, and panoramic views of the surrounding Alaskan mountain ranges were our reward for pushing our machines to the limit. Finally, with a little time left in the day before our victory dinner, those in the group who were still able to run under their own power made the scenic drive nearly 4,000 feet to the top of Hatcher Pass. What an epic end to an awesome Ultimate Adventure!
