Whenever a company that manufactures OE parts in high volume leverages its engineering, manufacturing, and design capabilities to produce products for the enthusiast aftermarket, the results are almost always impressive. And impressive it was when Dana announced several years ago it was making good on its promise to offer super high-quality Dana 60 crate axles at a price more affordable than the boutique competition. Loaded with a genuine Spicer ring and pinion gearset, your choice of ARB or Eaton E-lockers, absolutely monstrous SPL-70 axleshaft U-joints, heavy tubing, thick brackets, high-clearance centersections, and all the other goodies you'd expect from an aftermarket crate axle, they were an instant hit.

Shortly after the company launched the Ultimate Dana 60 crate axle program in 2017 we got one of the very first production pairs of JK Ultimate Dana 60s and installed them in the official UA2017 vehicle build, the UACJ6D. The following year, we again took a set of UD60s and adapted them under our UA2018 Derange Rover project. And of course, last year we installed a set of UD60s under our UA2019 Ultimate International build, taking a pair of JK Ultimate Dana 60s and cutting the brackets off so we could mount leaf spring perches. And even though we're sticking with the regular JK/JL UD60 bracket package for the UALRJ this year, there's the option of going with Dana's "bracketless" UD60s, which are the same super high-quality, incredibly burly UD60s, but with bare tubes so you can install whatever suspension brackets or perches you like.

So while Verne Simons is busily building the UA2020 UALRJ project using a pair of Ultimate Dana 60 axles, we'll take the time to remind everybody that even if you don't require the silly strength the UD60's SPL-70 U-joints, alloy axleshafts, and huge ring and pinion for your JK or JL Wrangler or JT Gladiator or other 4x4 build, Dana has you covered with its Ultimate Dana 44 axle assemblies, which give you a great bump in strength, durability, and survivability compared with the factory Wrangler or Gladiator axle package. Be sure to stay tuned to fourwheeler.com/ultimate-adventure to follow updates on the UALRJ as it comes together, and don't forget to watch all the UA2020 event coverage on our website as well as social media with the #UA2020 hashtag for the latest on what the UA gang is up to as the event draws closer!
