Bumpstops for the 2020 Ultimate Adventure Long Range Jeep #UA2020

Part 14: We fab up some bumpstops with room to grow.

Bumpstops every suspension needs them. Our Ultimate Adventure 2020 Long Range Jeep is no exception, and after a little noodling with friends on what to do, and a long weekend fabricating, the Jeep is ready for the suspension bottoming. At the end of the day, bumpstops can be as simple as metal to metal crashing into each other when the suspension bottoms. More commonly some sort of flexible foam or rubber will act to soften the blows of axle meeting frame. Modern solutions use pneumatic bumpstops, sometimes called air-bumps. Everyone wants air-bumps, but not everyone can afford them. So, we devised a solution using air-bump cans, aluminum dummy air-bumps, and some polyurethane bumpstops from Daystar. This design should allow the 2020 Ultimate Adventure Long Range Jeep to serve during the actual event without too many harsh hits and should allow for suspension improvement on down the road. Check out what we did, and know we will follow up with information on how it panned out once the Jeep has seen some action.
