4x4 of the Year - Day 1
Meet The Contestants
“Who will come out on top?"
Every year the staff of Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road convenes to pit a group of vehicles against one another in our 4x4 of the Year test. We don’t separate SUVs from trucks, or luxury vehicles from economy models. We do require a few things: a two-speed, low-range-equipped transfer case; availability by early the following year; and a minimum production of 2,500.
For 2015, we have a field of eight vehicles. Half are trucks and the other half are SUVs. Half are diesel and the other half are gas powered. All are new to the market though, or significantly redesigned. We aren’t talking about an option package with stickers and rims, “significant” means a manual improvement like more horsepower, a new suspension, or revised traction control.
Chevrolet Colorado with Duramax Diesel
Nissan Titan XD with Cummins Diesel
Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro
Jeep Renegade Trail Hawk
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Diesel Van
Diesel Range Rover Sport
Through our week of testing we will be doing daily updates comparing specific components on this diverse group of vehicles. Check back each day as our group of judges develop their impressions and give us your input on which should be crowned Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road 4x4 of the Year.
